Update New Zealand 08-08-22
Another quiet week in New Zealand this week, but we are going to start talking about proactive steps. Today I want to share with you my thoughts on where we need to start going in the future. But, good stuff for you today. Good morning, New Zealand chiropractors and allied health professionals. My name is Bharon Hoag. I am the Executive Director of The Chiropractic Defense Council coming to you today, August 8th, 2022, for your weekly update.
Again, a quiet week. And I know maybe to some, that doesn’t sound very exciting, but for me, I’m very happy that we have our people still practicing and still moving forward. And we’re not having any issues, no complaints, no fines, no you know, visits or unexpected visits to offices, things of that nature. So we’re pleased with that. And we’re still proactively working with those offices that have had fines and complaints prior, but the government is still not reaching out to make that happen.
Now, I want to talk with you a little bit about the proactive steps that I think we’re going to take. I’m hopefully going to be meeting with our team this week to talk about these proactive steps. We’re starting to take these proactive steps in Australia, and I want to do the same thing in New Zealand, and that is starting to shift from the legal side more to the political side. It’s time that we start building alliances and we start educating our legislators.
I know that New Zealand is a very different government system. I understand that it’s pretty much a hierarchy but I still believe in the power of the people. I still believe that you guys have the opportunity and we’ve shown that through this pandemic you guys are able to, at the end of the day, stand your ground and the government is relatively limited in what it’s going to do.
And so we want to take advantage of that.
It is time for our way of life to start coming to the forefront. It’s time that we start educating people more authentically on our perspective of health and how it meets the needs of the questions that they have. They just don’t know what to call it. We’re going to start getting proactive. We told you in the very beginning that although our goal is to defend the rights of practicing chiropractors and allied health we also want to get in. And we want to prevent things like this from happening as there’s crazy, talk about Monkeypox and all these other weird things that they’re talking about as we get near the end of the year.
The only way we’re going to protect ourselves is to start being proactive. This is why it’s so important that you guys stay connected to us. Our work is not here just waiting for a tree to fall on the clinic. This is more about making sure that our rights are protected moving forward so that we don’t ever have these types of issues.
Some of you closed down for over a year, and that’s unacceptable to me that you have been stopped from being able to provide the service that you can provide your community, especially in a health crisis. You, of all people, need to be out there on the front lines treating because we’re the only healthcare profession that truly promotes health. And that’s what needs to be proclaimed through your legislature, through the POL politicians, and the government. And so they understand exactly where we fit and why we need to be considered when they make these types of decisions.
I’m going to be talking with our team. We’re going to be starting to reach out. We may be reaching out to some of you for relationships. You may or may not feel free to start emailing me.
If you know people that are pretty influential among New Zealand decision-makers, whether they’re on a city or state, or government level, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We want to start gathering that information. I’ll be working with the association as I always do to make sure that we’re moving forward cohesively, but it is time we take a step forward and not just stand our ground.
Hopefully, that excites you. Hopefully, you understand the vision that we have. Because at the end of the day, our goal is to make sure that you have the right to continue to tell your truth. And we’re going to do everything in our power to make that happen. So this week, good week, we don’t have any more fires that have started anywhere. However, we’re going to start laying some groundwork to ensure that fires don’t start in the future.
