We are continuing to monitor the situation in Massachusetts on the bills there, as well as today. Before we get into that, I have a clarification on something I said last week that was brought to my attention as well as continued conversations worldwide on what’s happening in this new flux of healthcare. So lots of information for you today in your updates. Good morning, American chiropractors, my name is Bharon Hoag. I am the Executive Director of OneChiropractic and The Chiropractic Defense Council coming to you today, Monday, June 27th, 2022 for your weekly update.
Well, I first want to kind of get out of the way of clarification on something that I had said in last week’s video. You know, I do consider myself a pretty good communicator. I do these videos kind of off the cuff. I don’t take notes. But I sometimes get ahead of myself when I’m feeling it and I just start saying things.
I commented last week and it was brought to my attention by some people that monitor and watch what’s going on in that statement: that I’m not married to the term subluxation. And so I want to, I want to be very clear. I was confronted on whether, you know, we believe in the subluxation within the CDC and OneChiropractic and really what our position statement was on that. So I’m going to answer this in two different ways. I do not want to be misunderstood, nor do I ever want to misrepresent anything. First and foremost, OneChiropractic and The Chiropractic Defense Council is not fighting that fight. Our mission is not to make subluxation the primary focus of chiropractic. But we’re not an organization that’s going to be picking fights over terminology. So hopefully that’s a little bit of clarification. This is a big deal. As you know, there are those out there that are wanting to make sure things are being said and done, in the right manner. So hopefully that’s a clarification on that now with that said…
I want to go back to some of the work we’re doing. I got our email of the week. Every week we take a question we have received from an email from one of our supporters and answer it on video. This week’s question is from Dr. Friedman in Massachusetts. She wrote about the issue of the bill that is being moved through the house in Massachusetts dealing with removing the ability for religious exemptions. So the good news is that our lobbying team has been on that. They’re based in Massachusetts. So they have a lot of contacts in that state. They’ve gone to the legislature and that bill’s just not got any wheels. There are a lot of things going on in Massachusetts right now. They don’t have a lot of time left in their legislative cycle. So nothing’s going to happen with that bill, but we have it on our radar. If there’s any movement in that, we will definitely step up and use our contacts to stop that. I want to thank Leah Wilson also from Stanford health freedom. I’ve been communicating with her on this as well, making sure that we’re using our resources combined on issues that we’re aligned on. So that work has been done. We’re not concerned about that particular bill in Massachusetts continuing to have great conversations with groups around the profession.
