Update Canada 06-20-22
Still some rumblings in British Columbia about releasing privacy information, as well as the x-ray work that we’re doing there. But we’re also digging into some marketing rules and other restrictions that are happening across Canada as a whole. So today I’m going to update you on where we’re at and all of that stuff. So good morning, Canadian chiropractors and allied health professionals. My name is Bharon Hoag. I am the Executive Director of OneChiropractic and The Chiropractic Defense Council coming to you today, Monday, June 20th, 2022 for your weekly update. So British Columbia still tends to be the hotspot throughout Canada at the moment. I know Bonnie Henry’s been releasing more comments and more interviews stating that she’s working with the colleges. I know that there was a new PHO that was released demanding that the colleges continue to monitor the vaccination status of their registrants.
None of this is a surprise based on how she’s been talking before, but I know it leads a lot of people to believe that they are going to release individual people’s vaccination status. We’re not going to let that happen at least to the best of our ability. If it does happen, we will immediately go after an injunction. We’ve notified The Ministry of Health that’s the case. They keep telling us that’s not what’s going to happen, but then we hear the rhetoric from Bonnie Henry as she’s out communicating. So we are watching this again. I still think this is a power move. I think that Bonnie’s just trying to still exert some authority in the last waning days of this whole pandemic and vaccine. She did actually, interestingly enough, through the freedom of information act, her emails were released showing that she knew that they were adverse reactions to the vaccine.
So we’re very interested in what that’s going to do to a lot of the legal cases that are still working throughout British Columbia. So very interesting times when the data comes out. Information comes out and we’re releasing that information. As for our x-ray, as I told you before, that’s, we’re expecting that to start hitting in September and October for our judicial review. Our legal team is starting to tech up on all the information, and the data, putting our case in the best position. And so we’re confident again, thank you to all of those, all of you that have sent me information and contacts to make sure we have what we need for that X-ray regulation. So we’re continuing to dig on that. As far as the rest of the country, we are looking at some restrictive language, everything from not allowing you to do prepays, to not allowing you to market appropriately and communicate about what you should be able to communicate about all of those types of things.
So we’re building our legal team again, to start looking in different areas of the country. And, we’re digging into that. So thank you again to those of you that have reached out to me, giving me information on that. I’m still doing some due diligence to understand the history and the process when these changes came, and what the reason for the changes is. So please continue to keep sending that information my way because it does help me to have a better understanding and guide our legal team as we take on these issues. Listen, we promised all of you from the very beginning that you know, we’re going to do everything we can to protect the rights of practicing chiropractors and allied health professionals, and we’re committed to doing so. We never were created specifically for the mandate issues we were created to ensure that our specialty has the opportunity and the infrastructure to be able to grow.
We believe our way of life is the way of life for everyone. And we just need an even plain surface to be able to make that happen. And that’s exactly why the CDC exists. So we love our allied health friends that are a part of this and our chiropractors, we’re continuing to dig, and we’re going to continue to ensure that we create a reality where our way of life can become the way of life for others. So I also promised you last week that each week I’m going to pick a question that comes in and answer that. So it is that time of the update to be able to give you our weekly question. So this question comes from Dr. and I’m going to butcher this last name, but I think it’s called Somalia, Somalia, something like that. I apologize.
Their question came in, asking when it comes to having conversations with your patient about vaccination status, really, how deep should we go? So I don’t know. And forgive me, because I get my questions blurred between all the different countries that we’re working in. So I’m not sure if I’ve had this conversation with you guys or not, but I don’t believe I have because you’ve never actually been mandated. So it’s a little bit easier in Canada because there is no quote-unquote requirement for you to be mandated. So it’s really none of their business. And I would just simply tell them that we don’t discuss private health information. You’re not going to ask them if they are and you don’t want them asking you or your staff if you are. However, one of the suggestions I made in the other countries that have been very effective and we get a lot of positive feedback on is that you should post signs that your office is a COVID-free zone.
Know that doesn’t mean that the virus isn’t existent in your office. It means that it’s the one place they can go where we’re not talking about that particular topic. We’re talking about health, we’re talking about what happens, why the way that we view health is so important to our patients, and the way that they view health, but we’re not going to get into the same rhetoric that everyone else is talking about. Those offices that have posted those types of signs have said, it’s been amazing how many patients are thankful that they can go in there and not be bombarded. Like they are everywhere else in the world. So that’s what I recommend. You know, if someone’s cornering you and making you ask, I just flat out tell them, we just don’t have those conversations. It’s a no-win situation if you are, or you aren’t. And so, we believe in choice, we believe in everyone’s individual decision to make the choice for themselves and their families. And so we’re just not going to get into those discussions for obvious reasons. So Dr. Somalia, forgive me for butchering your name, from a name like Bharon Hoag, I get that.
It’s probably best that people understand how you say your name, but thank you for your question. Keep your questions coming. You know, that’s why we’re here. If you have something we’ll have our legal teams look at and make sure we get you the right answers, but you could be the question of the week. So make sure you send them in and we’ll do our best to answer. Listen, have an incredible week. Just know that we’re still fighting. We’re going to make sure that our way of life becomes the norm. And it’s only through people like you. So please continue to spread the word to your colleagues, let them know that there’s a place like ours that exists for them to come and get information to know what’s really going on, and get past all the rhetoric and the dogma and the propaganda and hear the truth and not overreact about things, but have the nuts and bolts of what’s going on. We would love to continue to grow our influence in Canada. So we love you. We appreciate you having an incredible week and we’ll talk to you next week. God bless you.
