Update Canada 07-18-22
We have been very active throughout Canada this past week, with lots of conversations and a lot of information flowing. Today I want to share with you what we’re doing, moving across the country, and then obviously updating you on what’s happening in British Columbia, where we’ve had most of our activity. Good morning, Canadian chiropractors and allied health professionals. My name is Bharon Hoag. I am the Executive Director of The Chiropractic Defense Council coming to you today, Monday, July 18th, 2022 for your weekly update. I hope you had a great week last week enjoying your summer months. It’s been a busy week for us in Canada. I had a good conversation yesterday with our legal team, as we’re looking at things throughout all of Canada. And it’s interesting stuff about the different colleges across the country and how draconian they have been in their enforcement.
They’re not protecting the public. They’re just being militant in their effort and they’re just kind of going on a whim. We’re developing a deep strategy going across the country. And then the biggest thing that I need people to understand is the reason that we exist, we want to be that group that gives you the confidence to stand and practice and speak as you choose. Now, with that said, we’re not giving you a license to be an idiot. You know, there are rules, there are laws, there are things that we need to abide by however, getting $25,000 fines and being shut down for a week because you took a five visit. Prepay is unacceptable to me. I get that there are rules, the marketing laws, then the way you’re restricted to communicate, and what you do is unacceptable to me, especially when we have peer-reviewed evidence that is contrary to those rules.
These are the things that we have issues with throughout Canada, and they have been largely unmonitored and unchallenged. And so our legal team is building our representation across Canada to be able to take on some of these issues. And we’re going to be very proactive, not only that, but we’re also going to be proactive in bringing people together to be able to not only deal with things legally, but also politically there’s a political arm to this that we actually can start controlling our future, but we have to get organized. And that’s exactly what the Defense Council is going to try to do throughout Canada in conjunction with the CNAC I love the CNAC as they have supported us from the very beginning we’re supporting them. So I want you to understand that we’re also working with the national organization, making sure that we’re working hand in hand to do what’s right and protecting the rights of practicing chiropractors.
We just have the ability to do some things that they don’t, which is by design. That’s not a knock on them and their abilities. They shouldn’t be doing the work that we’re doing, because that is outside of their scope. However, we have to work together and that’s exactly what’s happening. Be on the lookout specifically in Alberta, and Quebec areas, because I’m also starting to build little groups within each province. That can be my contact group within that province to let me know the things that are going on there and the issues that you’re dealing with with your colleges, and things of that nature. If you’re interested in being a point person within that particular province, please reach out to me. We just did that in Quebec. I want to do that throughout the rest of the country as well. Because we are going to start going on the offensive now. And then I’ll get into British Columbia, but here’s what I need from you. We have to grow our tribe. And the way this works and the reason that we can afford to take on all of these things throughout the entire country is that we have a bunch of people doing a little bit. For the last five or six months, we’ve been very strong in British Columbia. That’s where most of our membership lies, in British Columbia. Remember we’re only asking for $33 US a month, so it’s not a huge ask that we’re asking of you guys, but we need to grow to over a thousand people throughout Canada.
And so I’m asking for your help. I need you to share these types of videos with your colleagues, letting them know that there is an organization that’s coming together. We’re an apolitical organization, as far as pushing our agenda. What we’re doing is protecting the rights of the practicing chiropractor. This works. And we will take on these battles. If you have any issues with your licensing board or if you have any issues with anything else in your province, we will be there to support you. Assuming that you are in the right and you haven’t done anything inappropriate. But this works. We give you that confidence to be able to stand. I was just talking with our legal teams and they were saying that they know so many people that have cases that they should be taking forward, but they don’t want to spend the mental energy.
They don’t have the resources and they’re afraid of losing their license. And so fear and apathy have stopped us from standing up for our rights. The Defense Council is wanting to give you that confidence to be able to stand up because you’re not risking your dollars. You’re not really at risk of losing your license because our legal team, who is very knowledgeable, and very skilled, will be there to defend you. So we need to grow that confidence throughout the profession of chiropractic in Canada. It has been largely unchecked and it’s time that we check that. So that’s what we’re doing across the rest of the country. I need you to get involved. I need you to help us to grow our influence and know that you have the confidence to be able to practice and live as you choose. So that’s what we’re doing as it relates to the whole of Canada in British Columbia.
We are still actively working on the X-ray issue. We also, that there was an issue with the college in British Columbia and the way that they did their investigations. It was a case that was brought before the tribunal. And, we won. The college was told that the way that they went about that was inappropriate, and they were trying to appeal that. And at this point, they’re not moving with that at all. We’ve been working hard to try to get the college, to understand the magnitude of what we’re trying to do by creating a fair environment. We understand their job is to protect the general public. We support that and encourage that. And some rules need to be enforced. But what they’ve been doing is not that they have been policing the chiropractic profession, not monitoring, protecting the general public and that’s what’s been changing. So both the X-ray issue, as well as the process in which they do their investigations, and how they handle their hearings, those types of things are being called into check right now. And so we have legal teams working on those within British Columbia. That’s pretty much what I have for you this week. I’ve kind of been rambling, giving you a vision of where we’re going in Canada, but I need your help, please spread this video. I’m not asking for you to do more individually, other than to share our message so that we can grow our tribe and make Canada a very strong chiropractic country, because we’re giving you the right to tell your story. And for all of our allied people in British Columbia, we’re not leaving you out, we’re happy to help you the same way we are the chiropractors if you’re having the same type of issues.
So don’t feel like you’re being left out of this conversation, because you’re not. I’m just much more familiar with what’s going on with chiropractic. So listen, we love you. We appreciate you.
